about
Drawing inspiration from a bygone era of overly dramatic synth-pop and dark wave sounds, the first ever offering from L.M. QUEEN; S.M.A. (Saddest Man Alive) is served up fresh to homebound eardrums around the globe. Born into this strange new existence in a time of human isolation, physical separation and unprecedented introspection, the timing couldn’t feel more right to sample the first taste of this moody new solo artist’s work.
Parallels between the musical style of L.M. QUEEN and acts such as Depeche Mode, Ultra Vox and New Order are easily drawn and he cites these bands as his jumping off point, inspired by their approach to pop through the use of electronic drum machines and heavy synth presence. But his music also leans into the darker side of the genre taking cues from bands such as Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke and Clan of Xymox.
Tragic and full of woeful drama, S.M.A. tells the true story of a man, alone on a dark, cold night, laying on the ground crying so loud it rang out throughout the neighbourhood. As L.M. QUEEN peered out from his third floor window down onto the lonely street, the man lay howling like “a wolf at the moon”. At that very moment, that sorrowful figure was indeed the saddest man alive.
lyrics
Up in my tower peering down
I see the saddest man laying on the ground
He howls louder than a wolf at the moon
Tonight I saw the saddest man alive
Tonight he cried
The saddest man alive
Tonight he cried
The saddest man
The saddest man alive
Alive
The saddest man alive
Alive
The saddest man
Up in my tower
Heard him cry from miles and miles away
Tonight he cried
The saddest man alive
Tonight he cried
The saddest man
The saddest man alive
Alive
The saddest man alive
Alive
The saddest man
Tonight... he cried
Tonight... he cried
The saddest man alive
Alive
